Women’s Madras Boating club won 81st Annual Madras-Colombo Rowing Regatta

The Madras Boating Club women won the 81st Annual Madras-Colombo Rowing Regatta, which was held in Colombo, Sri Lanka. The 81st Annual Madras-Colombo Rowing Regatta was held on 26th November 2022, and they were awarded the Adyar Trophy. The Men’s category was bagged by Colombo Rowing Club, and they were awarded Deepam Trophy.

About Madras Colombo Regatta

  • The first-ever Madras-Colombo Rowing Regatta was held in 1898 and is considered the oldest sporting encounter held between Sri Lanka and India.
  • The Madras Boat Club and the Colombo Rowing Club host the Regatta and this year Colombia Rowing Club’s turn to host the Indian team.
  • The main event of the Regatta is the men’s boat race, considered the second oldest boat race in the world.
  • The overall winners of the men’s event are awarded with the prestigious Deepam Trophy while the women’s championship is awarded Adyar Trophy.
  • The men’s races this year included two categories A and B.
  • Under these categories there were Coxless Pair, Double Scull, and Single Scull.
  • The women’s meet will comprise of Coxless Fours, Coxless Pair, Double Scull, and Single Scull races.
