Yogi Adityanath Inaugurates IBM’s AI GovTech Innovation Centre in Lucknow

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated IBM’s AI GovTech Innovation Centre in Lucknow, calling it a major step toward strengthening technology-driven governance in the state. He said the initiative will help Uttar Pradesh emerge as a leader in emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, deep tech and quantum computing.

Strengthening Tech-Driven Governance

The AI GovTech Innovation Centre, set up in collaboration with IBM, will serve as a platform to design and scale AI-based solutions to improve governance, transparency and public service delivery.

The Chief Minister said Uttar Pradesh has strong potential in advanced technology. He recalled that India’s first computer was installed at Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur with IBM’s support, highlighting the state’s historical link with technological progress.

Focus on AI, Deep Tech and Quantum Computing

Yogi Adityanath said Uttar Pradesh is rapidly advancing in:

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI)
  • Robotics
  • Drone Technology
  • Medical Technology (MedTech)
  • Quantum Computing

The state budget has already made provisions for Centres of Excellence in Robotics and Drone Technology. Collaboration with IIT Kanpur is also underway in the MedTech sector.

MoUs Signed with UP Government

During the programme, IBM signed two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with the Uttar Pradesh government:

  1. With the Department of IT and Electronics – to develop AI-based applications across departments.
  2. With the Directorate of School Education – to introduce AI literacy programmes for students and teachers from Classes 6 to 12.

IBM Chairman and CEO Arvind Krishna said AI will play a crucial role in improving government efficiency and economic competitiveness globally.

Vision of ‘AI City’ Lucknow

The Chief Minister thanked IBM for partnering with the state and said the collaboration would help develop Lucknow as an “AI City.” He assured full support for future initiatives, including those related to quantum computing. The event was attended by senior officials from the Uttar Pradesh government, IBM and IIT Kanpur.
