The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has honored Abhinav Bindra, India’s first individual Olympic gold medallist, with the prestigious Olympic Order. This recognition will be formally presented during the 142nd IOC Session in Paris on August 10, 2024, a day before the closing of the Paris Olympics. The Olympic Order, the IOC’s highest award, acknowledges distinguished contributions to the Olympic Movement.
Bindra won the men’s 10-meter air rifle event at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, becoming the first Indian to secure an individual Olympic gold.
Since 2018, Bindra has been a member of the IOC Athlete Commission.
The Olympic Order will be awarded to Bindra at the 142nd IOC Session in Paris.
This accolade is given for notable contributions to the Olympic Movement, recognizing remarkable merit in sports or significant services to the Olympic cause.
Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya congratulated Bindra, highlighting that his achievement has instilled national pride and inspired future generations of athletes.
