Ajay Jadeja Appointed As Mentor For Afghanistan Cricket Team In ICC Cricket World Cup 2023

 

On Monday, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) appointed former India captain Ajay Jadeja as the team mentor for the upcoming ODI World Cup, scheduled to be held in India from October 5 to November 19.

Ajay Jadeja: A Former Indian Captain and Middle-Order Dynamo

Ajay Jadeja, a former Indian captain and middle-order batter, has a distinguished cricketing career to his name. He played 15 Test matches for India from 1992 to 2000, amassing 576 runs at an impressive average of 26.18, with four half-centuries to his name, and a highest score of 96. In One Day Internationals (ODIs), he made a significant impact, representing India in 196 matches, scoring 5359 runs at a stellar average of 37.47. This included six centuries and 30 half-centuries in the limited-overs format.

A Versatile Cricketer

Ajay Jadeja’s contributions extend beyond international cricket. He has been an integral part of 111 First-Class matches and 291 List A games, showcasing his versatility and proficiency across different formats of the game. In both First-Class and List A cricket, Jadeja has consistently delivered, accumulating over 8000 runs in each format. His remarkable tally includes an impressive 31 centuries and 88 half-centuries, highlighting his prowess as a prolific run-scorer.

Ajay Jadeja’s new role as the mentor of the Afghanistan National Cricket Team for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 signifies the trust and expectations placed upon him by the team management. Jadeja’s mentoring stint kicked off in Guwahati, where Afghanistan was scheduled to play their second and final World Cup warm-up match against Sri Lanka on Tuesday, October 3.
