Amit Shah Launches LPMS ‘VINIMAY’; India Moves Closer to Smart Border Management
Union Home Minister Amit Shah has launched the Land Port Management System (LPMS) ‘VINIMAY’ in New Delhi on 9th June, 2026. This digital platform aim to transform the management of the cargo, passengers and vehicles at the India’s lands ports through real time coordination and technology driven operations.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the Land Port Management System (LPMS) and it is part of the government’s broader Smart Borders initiative.
This platform has been developed to create the modern, integrated and secure border management ecosystem.
According to the Home Minister, LPMS will serve as the key pillar in the India’s four-pronged Smart Border strategy.
The system is designed to improve the security, facilitate trade, enhance people to people connectivity and to support the development of border regions.
The Land Port Management System is the digital platform which integrates the cargo management, vehicle processing, passenger movement and inter-agency coordination on a single interface.
This system connects the various government agencies and stakeholders who are involved in border operations and allowing seamless information exchange and real-time monitoring.

The newly launched digital platform also introduces the several technological upgrades that will significantly reduce the delays and paperwork.
Key Features
Government estimates suggest that the truck waiting times could reduce by 40% to 60% while the gate processing times may decrease by 22% to 35%.
Amit Shah said that the Ministry of Home Affairs is implementing the comprehensive Smart Border strategy which is focused on technology, coordination and security.
The LPMS platform will become the important component of the India’s future Smart Security Grid by facilitating the real-time information sharing among border agencies.
According to the government, this system will helps to curb illegal activities, strengthen surveillance, improve border monitoring and establish the robust security framework.
The initiative is also expected to balance the security requirements with trade facilitation and smoother movement of people across borders.
India’s land ports have witnessed the remarkable growth over the last decade and have emerged as the major gateways for trade and connectivity.
Growth in Land Port Trade
In the year 2014 trade stood at ₹5,000 Crore and in 2026 it is at ₹83,000 Crore.
This represents the 16-fold increase in the trade during the last 12 years.
The government also believes that digitization and infrastructure upgrades will further accelerate the cross-border trade and strengthen India’s economic growth.
India currently has 15 operational land ports across the its international borders.
The government plans to develop the 11 additional land ports over the next two to three years.
These new facilities are also expected to improve the connectivity, boost trade, create employment opportunities and support the overall development of border districts.
The expansion also aligns with the India’s long-term vision of creating world-class border infrastructure.
