Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah recently laid the foundation stone for the permanent campus of the National Academy of Coastal Policing in Dwaraka, Gujarat. In his address, Shah emphasized the BJP government’s commitment to coastal security, stating that it is a top priority under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The academy aims to provide comprehensive training facilities to over three thousand security personnel annually.
Amit Shah highlighted the significance of coastal security in the country and reiterated the government’s focus on ensuring its effectiveness. He emphasized that the Union government has spared no effort in developing border areas and ensuring the welfare of security personnel. Shah stated that without secure borders, there can be no substantial development within the inland regions of the country.
Established in 2018, the National Academy of Coastal Policing is the first national academy dedicated to providing intensive training to marine police personnel. It caters to the training needs of nine coastal states, five Union Territories, as well as the Central Police Forces. The academy plays a crucial role in enhancing the capabilities and skills of the marine police, enabling them to effectively tackle security challenges in coastal areas.
The newly constructed permanent campus of the National Academy of Coastal Policing in Dwaraka will serve as a hub for comprehensive training programs. It is equipped to train over three thousand security personnel annually, ensuring their preparedness to handle diverse coastal security scenarios. The academy’s training curriculum encompasses various aspects of coastal policing, including surveillance, intelligence gathering, interagency coordination, maritime law enforcement, and disaster response.
By providing state-of-the-art training facilities, the National Academy of Coastal Policing aims to strengthen coastal security measures across the country. The academy plays a crucial role in upgrading the skills and knowledge of marine police personnel, enabling them to effectively protect India’s vast coastline from potential threats. The academy’s efforts contribute to safeguarding national interests, preventing illicit activities such as smuggling, piracy, and unauthorized fishing, and ensuring the safety and security of coastal communities.
In addition to the foundation stone-laying ceremony, Home Minister Amit Shah also virtually inaugurated five coastal outposts of the Border Security Force (BSF) located at the Jakhau coast in the Kutch district. These outposts are strategically positioned to bolster surveillance and vigilance along the coastal borders. The inauguration signifies the government’s commitment to fortifying coastal defense mechanisms and enhancing border security in the region.
