Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Shri Amit Shah, released the book ‘Assam’s Braveheart Lachit Barphukan’ in Guwahati, Assam. The event witnessed the presence of several dignitaries, including Assam Chief Minister Shri Himant Biswa Sarma.
In his address, Shri Amit Shah highlighted the remarkable story of Lachit Barphukan, who fought against bigotry and power-hungry forces in the Northeast. He likened Lachit Borphukan to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj of Eastern India, emphasizing the significance of his role in India’s freedom struggle.
Shri Shah underlined the importance of the Battle of Saraighat, stating that if Lachit had not emerged victorious, Assam might have become a part of Bangladesh. He credited Lachit for halting invasions from Khilji to Aurangzeb, safeguarding Assam and contributing to the region’s integration with India.
The Union Home Minister expressed concern about the British-centric perspective in teaching history, leading to the omission of India’s ancient tales of bravery. He commended Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s initiative, the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, aimed at rekindling national consciousness.
Shri Shah outlined the threefold objectives of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav: raising awareness about freedom fighters’ sacrifices, celebrating India’s achievements in the last 75 years, and pledging to build a globally preeminent India by 2047. He emphasized the campaign’s success in instilling confidence in the youth.
Shri Amit Shah encouraged learning from Lachit Borphukan’s life, highlighting his humility as a commander who led from the front. He lauded Borphukan’s inclusive approach in forming an army that united various community groups, emphasizing the importance of collective effort for development.
Addressing controversies in Assam, the Home Minister urged the youth to rise above artificial disputes. He credited Prime Minister Modi for resolving disputes through nine agreements, bringing extremist groups into the mainstream. Shri Shah urged unity for the development of Assam and the Northeast.
Shri Amit Shah acknowledged the translation of the book into all scheduled languages by the Assam government. He emphasized the strength of multiple languages, urging respect for linguistic diversity and considering it a unifying force for the nation.
The Home Minister concluded by stating that leadership is defined by positive decisions, not just words. He commended Prime Minister Modi’s efforts to showcase numerous heroes in literature, fostering national self-respect, and envisioning a self-reliant and fully developed India by 2047.
