Ananth Tech to Start India’s First Private Satellite Internet

Ananth Technologies, a company from Hyderabad, has received permission to launch India’s first private satellite broadband service. The project, approved by IN-SPACe, is expected to start in 2028 and will use satellites made in India. This is an important step as it brings competition to global players like Starlink, OneWeb, and Amazon Kuiper in space-based internet.

India’s First Private Satellite Internet

Ananth Technologies has made history by becoming the first private Indian company to get approval for providing satellite-based internet using a satellite made in India. This service will be launched by 2028, and it will deliver broadband internet directly from space to users across the country, including in rural and remote areas where internet is often weak or missing.

The service will use a satellite in geostationary orbit, which is placed more than 35,000 km above Earth. This orbit allows the satellite to stay fixed over one point, helping provide steady internet service.

Who Gave the Approval and Why It Matters

The project has been cleared by IN-SPACe (Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre), which is the official space regulator for private companies in India. This approval shows that India is opening up its space sector to private companies, encouraging innovation and faster growth.

Until now, only foreign companies like Elon Musk’s Starlink, OneWeb, and Amazon Kuiper were offering or planning to offer space-based internet in India. With Ananth Tech entering this field, India now has its own player in this important technology area.

What’s Next for Ananth Tech

Ananth Tech plans to spend around ₹3,000 crore to complete this project. It aims to provide fast internet across India, including places where regular mobile towers or fiber cables are not available. This will help in improving education, healthcare, business, and communication in rural areas.

The company has not yet shared the exact launch date, but work on satellite building and service planning is already in progress.
