Chief of Defense Staff (CDS), General Anil Chauhan, inaugurated the LRMR Hangar & Dispersal at Naval Air Station, INS Utkrosh in Port Blair. The newly added hangar facility, covering an area of 6000 sq. mt., is capable of accommodating a combination of P8I aircraft with Dronier & Advanced Light Helicopters. This inauguration marks significant milestones in enhancing jointness and integration among the armed forces in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
This significant development will now provide Indian Navy, capability to stage through all types of fixed wing aircraft held in the Naval Inventory including the highly potent and versatile Boeing P8I Long Range Maritime Reconnaissance (LRMR) aircraft. LRMR Hangar & Dispersal will play a vital role in supporting air operations in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. This state-of-the-art facility will contribute to the security of the Indian Ocean Region while bolstering the region’s strategic importance.
General Anil Chauhan also inaugurated the Wet Basin & Refit Jetty at the Naval Ship Repair Yard in Port Blair. This jetty, developed in consultation with IIT Chennai and costing over 360 Cr, will provide essential support for strategic reach and sea operations of India’s first Joint Theatre Command in the region.
