Author And Art Curator Alka Raghuvanshi Passes Away

Author And Art Curator Alka Raghuvanshi passed away. She was India’s first trained art curator, having trained at the Goldsmiths College, London and the Museum of Modern Art in Oxford. She has curated and designed over 25 major exhibitions many of which travelled to other parts of the country and the world.

In her final literary work, late writer, curator, and artist Alka Raghuvanshi explored India’s rich jewellery traditions. The book, A Rendezvous with Traditional Indian Jewellery, released on her 63rd birth anniversary, showcases her deep affection for jewellery, an essential part of her artistic persona. Known for her signature bindi and unique jewellery, Alka’s love for art and textiles was widely recognized, especially in Delhi.

Book Release and Legacy

Alka’s sister, Manisha Gawade, a designer and artist, launched the book, three years after Alka’s demise. The book, published by Shubhi Publications, features photographs by Avinash Pasricha, capturing the essence of Indian jewellery traditions.
