As part of the flagship Godhan Nyay Yojna (GNY) initiated by the Chhattisgarh government, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel conducted online transfers exceeding Rs 15 crore to support cattle rearers, women’s self-help groups (SHGs), and ‘gauthan’ committees.
This initiative has empowered SHG women and surged farmer engagement in cattle rearing. The program has garnered national recognition, inspiring other states to adopt similar initiatives.
Out of the total amount of Rs 15.29 crore, an allocation of Rs 5.60 crore was directed towards the bank accounts of cattle rearers as compensation for the cow dung they supplied to gauthans, which serve as centers for caring for cattle in rural areas.
Additionally, a sum of Rs 9.69 crore was distributed to gauthan committees and women-led self-help groups (SHGs) affiliated with gauthans, as a part of the program’s provisions.
Introduced in July 2020 by the Chhattisgarh government, the Godhan Nyaya Yojana involves the procurement of cow dung at a rate of Rs. 2 per kg within the state’s gauthans.
