Deepali Thapa Makes History as First Schoolgirl Champion
In a groundbreaking moment for Indian boxing, Deepali Thapa etched her name in the annals of sports history by becoming the first-ever schoolgirl champion at the Asian Youth Boxing Championships held in Al Ain, UAE on Sunday. This remarkable achievement not only highlights Thapa’s exceptional talent but also underscores India’s rising prowess in women’s boxing on the international stage.

Bhoomi added to India’s medal tally with a convincing win in the 35kg weight class. Her victory over Kazakhstan’s Assel Jalimbekova further cemented India’s dominance in the lighter weight categories.
In the 37kg category, Nischal Sharma displayed tactical brilliance against Ukraine’s Maria Matsiura. Sharma’s control in the final round was particularly noteworthy, securing India’s third title of the championships.
