● A modular bridge is made of quick-installing components that may be easily assembled on site.
● The Ministry of Defence stated in a statement that L&T, a DRDO-nominated production agency, will produce the bridges after they have been designed and developed by DRDO.
● Seven carrier vehicles based on 8×8 heavy mobility vehicles and two launcher vehicles based on 10×10 heavy mobility vehicles must be included in each set of the modular bridge.
● They must be able to launch a single-span, fully decked, 46-meter assault bridge mechanically.
● The bridge’s fast launching and recovery characteristics allow it to be used over a variety of obstacles, including canals and ditches.
● The equipment can keep up with wheeled and tracked motorised vehicles and is incredibly mobile, adaptable, and tough.
● Additionally, the modular bridges will take the role of the Indian Army’s current manually launched medium girder bridges (MGB).
● The modular bridges made in-country will be superior to MGB in several ways, including expanded span, quicker construction, and mechanical launching with retrieval capability.
