In a major step to strengthen the firepower of the Indian Army’s armoured regiments, the Ministry of Defence has signed a significant ₹2,095 crore deal with Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) for the procurement of INVAR Anti-Tank Guided Missiles (ATGMs). These advanced missiles will enhance the combat capability of T-90 main battle tanks, boosting India’s deterrence and operational edge. The procurement is in line with the government’s focus on Aatmanirbharta (self-reliance) in defence manufacturing, leveraging domestic expertise and promoting indigenous defence production under the ‘Buy (Indian)’ category.
The INVAR missile is a laser-guided, precision anti-tank guided weapon known for its high hit probability and superior penetration capability. Designed to be launched from tank barrels, the missile is particularly effective against modern armoured threats, making it a critical addition to India’s mechanised warfare capability.
The signing marks another milestone in India’s push towards equipping armed forces with indigenous and cutting-edge weapon systems while reducing dependency on foreign suppliers.
