FIFA lifted ban on All India Football Federation(AIFF) : Highlights

  • FIFA declared, “On August 25, the Council’s Bureau resolved to immediately lift the All India Football Federation (AIFF)’s suspension. As a result, India can host the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2022, which is slated to take place from October 11–30, 2022.”
  • The entire dispute was set off when Praful Patel, a former president of the All India Football Federation (AIFF), decided not to hold elections even after his term as president had ended. In the end, the Indian Supreme Court stepped in and appointed a committee to draft a new constitution.

About the ban uplift by the FIFA on All India Football Federation (AIFF):

  • The decision was made in response to a new petition submitted by the Sports Ministry, which asked the court to modify its rulings from May 18 and August 3 after consulting FIFA.
  • The All India Football Federation (AIFF) elections will now take place on September 2, with former goalkeeper Kalyan Chaubey and legendary Bhaichung Bhutia expected to square off for the position of president.
