Historic Bronze Win for Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh at Paris Olympics

In a remarkable display of skill and precision, Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh has secured a bronze medal in the 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team event at the Paris Olympics. The Indian pair triumphed over South Korea’s Oh Ye Jin and Lee Wonho, bringing home the second medal for India at these Games. This victory is particularly notable as it marks the second bronze for Manu Bhaker at the Paris Olympics, making her the first Indian to win two medals in a single edition of the Olympic Games since Independence.

A Historic Achievement for Indian Shooters

Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh, both hailing from Haryana, have demonstrated their prowess in shooting by previously winning the 10m air pistol mixed team gold at the 2022 National Shooting Championship held at the Madhya Pradesh Academy in Bhopal. Their latest achievement at the Paris Olympics adds to their illustrious careers and brings immense pride to India.

The Path to Bronze

Competing at the Chateauroux Shooting Centre, Bhaker and Singh displayed exceptional teamwork and resilience. They led 4-2 after the third series and extended their lead to 8-2 after the fifth. Despite a spirited comeback attempt by the South Korean team, which narrowed the gap to 10-6 after the eighth series, the Indian duo maintained their composure and secured a comfortable victory.

Sarabjot Singh’s First Olympic Medal

For Sarabjot Singh, this bronze marks his first Olympic medal, a significant milestone in his shooting career. His performance, alongside Bhaker’s experienced guidance, proved to be a winning combination.

Manu Bhaker’s Double Medal Triumph

Manu Bhaker has made history by becoming the first Indian to win multiple medals at a single Olympic Games. She had already earned a bronze in the women’s 10m air pistol event earlier in the Games. Her achievement places her among the elite group of Indian athletes who have won multiple Olympic medals, joining the ranks of Norman Pritchard (athletics), Sushil Kumar (wrestling), and PV Sindhu (badminton).

Setting New Records for India

Manu Bhaker’s dual medals at the Paris Olympics set a new precedent for Indian athletes. Until now, no Indian had won multiple medals in a single edition of the Summer Games. Bhaker’s success is a testament to her dedication and the support of the Indian shooting community.
