India Champions Triumph in World Championship of Legends 2024

In a riveting finale of the World Championship of Legends 2024, India Champions clinched a memorable victory against their arch-rivals Pakistan Champions by five wickets. The match, held at Edgbaston on July 13, 2024, showcased the enduring spirit of cricket and the fierce competition between these two cricketing powerhouses.

Pakistan’s Innings: A Competitive Total

Winning the Toss and Setting the Stage

Pakistan Champions, after winning the toss, elected to bat first. Their decision set the stage for an exciting first innings that would keep spectators on the edge of their seats.

Strong Start and Middle-Order Contributions

The Pakistani innings got off to a solid start with Kamran Akmal (24 off 19) and Maqsood (21 off 12) providing an early burst of runs. However, the Indian bowlers managed to keep the scoring in check with regular wickets.

The standout performance came from Shoaib Malik, who anchored the innings with a crucial 41 off 23 balls. His innings proved vital in steadying the ship after captain Younis Khan was clean bowled by Irfan Pathan for a disappointing 7 runs.

Late Surge and Final Total

Despite a middle-order collapse and Misbah-ul-Haq retiring hurt after a quick 18, late contributions from Sohail Tanvir (19* off 9) helped Pakistan reach a competitive total of 156 for 6 in their allotted 20 overs.

India’s Bowling Performance

The Indian bowling attack, spearheaded by Anureet Singh with three wickets, proved effective in containing the Pakistani batsmen. Support came from Vinay Kumar, Pawan Negi, and Irfan Pathan, each claiming one wicket, demonstrating a well-rounded bowling effort.

India’s Chase: A Display of Determination and Skill

Early Setbacks and Recovery

India’s run chase began with intent but faced an early setback with the loss of Robin Uthappa (10). However, Ambati Rayudu took center stage with an explosive 50 off 30 balls, setting a solid foundation for the chase.

Key Partnerships and Momentum Shifts

Despite losing Suresh Raina cheaply for 4, a strong partnership between Rayudu and Gurkeerat Singh Maan (34 off 33) kept India on track. The momentum stayed with India even after their dismissals, thanks to Yusuf Pathan’s blistering 30 off 16 balls.

Captains Finish in Style

With captain Yuvraj Singh (15*) and Irfan Pathan (5*) at the crease, India sealed the victory in style, reaching 159 for 5 in 19.1 overs, much to the delight of their supporters.

Pakistan’s Bowling Effort

Pakistan’s bowlers fought hard but couldn’t halt India’s determined march towards the target. Aamer Yamin emerged as the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3-0-29-2, ably supported by Sohail Tanvir and Sohail Khan, who claimed one wicket each.

Brief Scores:

  • Pakistan Champions: 156/6 in 20 overs (Shoaib Malik 41, Kamran Akmal 24; Anureet Singh 2/43)
  • India Champions: 159/5 in 19.1 overs (Ambati Rayudu 50, Gurkeerat Singh Mann 34, Yusuf Pathan 30; Aamer Yamin 2/29)
