India Joins Champions Group of Global Crisis Response Group

India has joined the Champions Group of the Global Crisis Response Group (GCRG) at the invitation of the UN Secretary-General. The GCRG was established in March 2022 to address urgent global issues in food security, energy, and finance, and to coordinate a global response.

    • India received an invitation from UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to join the Champions Group of the GCRG.

    • Sanjay Verma, Secretary (West) in the Ministry of External Affairs, has been designated as Sherpa to the GCRG process.

    • The Champions Group currently includes heads of governments/states from Bangladesh, Barbados, Denmark, Germany, Indonesia, and Senegal.
    • India’s inclusion in the group will strengthen the collective efforts of the United Nations in finding result-oriented solutions, particularly for developing countries.

    • The GCRG was established to address interlinked crises in food security, energy, and finance.
