Jewar Airport Inaugurated: PM Modi Launches India’s Mega Aviation Hub to Decongest Delhi-NCR

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated Phase-1 of the Noida International Airport at Jewar in Uttar Pradesh, marking a major milestone in India’s aviation and infrastructure development. Built with an investment of approximately ₹11,200 crore, the airport is one of the largest greenfield airport projects in the country. The event was attended by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath along with several Union and state leaders.

A Sustainable and Future-Ready Net-Zero Airport

The Noida International Airport has been designed as a the net-zero emissions facility. With this it making as Indias one of the most environmentally friendly and responsible infrastructure projects.

The airport includes the system like,

  • The energy-efficient building systems
  • Renewabl energy usage of the several things
  • Sustainable construction practices

This approach is aligns with India’s global climate commitments and it shows the shift thinking towards green aviation infrastructure.

Strengthening Delhi-NCR: Second International Gateway

The airport has been developed as the second international airport for Delhi-NCR and it will be complement the existing Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi.

As day by day the passenger traffic in the region rising this new airport will,

  • Reduce pressure on Capital primary airport
  • Will improve regional accessibility
  • Enhance domestic and international connectivity

Strategic location of Jewar is also to benefit nearby states like Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan whose some regions are part of NCR (National Capital Region) and making it a crucial transport hub.

Passenger Capacity and Expansion Plans

In the initial phase the airport will handle around the 12 million passengers per annum (MPPA).

Though it has been designed with  scalability in mind in the future when the need will arise.

When the airport will get upon the full developed the capacity is expected to reach around 70 million passengers per year.

This phase expansion will ensures that the airport can accommodate India’s rapidly growing aviation demand over the coming decades.

Cargo Hub and Logistics Powerhouse

Apart from the passenger services the Noida International Airport is set to become a major cargo and logistics hub.

This airport includes,

  • The Multi-Modal Cargo Hub
  • An Integrated Cargo Terminal
  • Dedicated logistics zones to easy and smooth handling

In the first phase of the project the cargo facility will handle over 2.5 lakh metric tonnes annually.

Abd it have the potential to expand up to 18 lakh metric tonnes when it get fully developed.

Along with that a 40 acre Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility will strength the India’s aviation ecosystem by reducing dependence on foreign maintenance services.
