Jyotiraditya Scindia Launches ₹175 Crore Coffees of Nagaland Mission
Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has launched the ₹175 crore “Coffees of Nagaland” Mission to boost the coffee sector of Nagaland. This ambitious initiative aims to transform the northeastern state into a premium specialty coffee destination with strong domestic and global market presence.
Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region Jyotiraditya M Scindia has officially launched the Cluster-based Coffee Value Chain Development Mission for Nagaland.
The mission comes with a total investment of ₹175 crore.
It has been designed as a full value chain coffee development program.
The objective is to move Nagaland beyond raw coffee production and establish it as a globally recognized specialty coffee brand.
The mission focuses on building a complete coffee ecosystem.
Instead of only increasing cultivation, it will also cover every stage of the coffee business.
This includes the plantation development, processing, branding, marketing, exports, traceability, tourism and farmer capacity building.
The idea is to ensure the coffee growers earn more value rather than only selling raw produce.
This program will follow a cluster-based development approach.
For this mission, two pilot clusters have been selected.
Tuophema village in the Kohima district has been chosen for Arabica coffee.
Ghotovi village in Niuland district will focus on Robusta coffee.
These clusters will serve as the role model centres for future expansion.
Jyotiraditya Scindia has described the initiative as more than a government program.
He said this is a ‘Whole of India approach’ and brings together the governments, ministries, farmers, entrepreneurs, processors, branding specialists, exporters and market stakeholders.
The mission also aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Viksit North East vision.
The broader goal is to integrate the northeastern agriculture with premium global value chains.
The major part of the mission is brand creation.
The government wants to establish ‘Coffees of Nagaland’ as a premium single-origin specialty coffee label.
