Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has launched the ₹175 crore “Coffees of Nagaland” Mission to boost the coffee sector of the Nagaland. This ambitious initiative aims to transform the northeastern state into the premium specialty coffee destination with strong domestic and global market presence.
₹175 Crore Coffees of Nagaland Mission Launched
Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region Jyotiraditya M Scindia has officially launched the Cluster based Coffee Value Chain Development Mission for Nagaland.
The mission comes with the total investment of ₹175 crore.
It has been designed as a full value chain coffee development program.
The objective is to move the Nagaland beyond raw coffee production and establish it as a globally recognized specialty coffee brand.
What is the Coffees of Nagaland Mission?
The mission focuses on to building a complete coffee ecosystem.
Instead of just only increasing cultivation, it will also covers every stage of the coffee business.
This includes the plantation development, processing, branding, marketing, exports, traceability, tourism and farmer capacity building.
The idea is to ensure the coffee growers earn more value rather than only selling raw produce.
Pilot Coffee Clusters Identified
This program will follows a cluster based development approach.
For this mission two pilot clusters have been selected.
Tuophema village in the Kohima district has been chosen for Arabica coffee.
Ghotovi village in Niuland district will focus on Robusta coffee.
These clusters will serve as the role model centres for future expansion.
Scindia’s Big Vision for Nagaland Coffee
Jyotiraditya Scindia has described the initiative as more than a government program.
He said this is a ‘Whole of India approach’ and brings together the governments, ministries, farmers, entrepreneurs, processors, branding specialists, exporters and market stakeholders.
The mission also aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Viksit North East vision.
The broader goal is to integrate the northeastern agriculture with premium global value chains.
Brand North East Coffee Strategy
The major part of the mission is brand creation.
The government wants to establish ‘Coffees of Nagaland’ as a premium single origin specialty coffee label.
Promotion plans includes the,

- Trade fair participation
- Brand marketing
- Domestic retail positioning
- International export outreach
The main aim is to secure the premium shelf space globally.
How Farmers Will Benefit
The mission will directly targets the higher farmer incomes.
Small growers are expected to benefit through shared infrastructure and collective market access.
