Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra and senior advocate KV Viswanathan will be sworn in as Supreme Court judges, after the Central government cleared the appointment of the advocates. Their names were recommended to the Centre by the Supreme Court Collegium, headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud.
KV Viswanathan is a senior advocate who has practiced in the Supreme Court for over 30 years. He has appeared in a wide range of cases, including constitutional law, criminal law, and commercial law. He is also a member of the Bar Council of India and the Supreme Court Bar Association.

Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra is the Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court. He was appointed as a judge of the High Court in 2013 and elevated as its Chief Justice in 2021. He has also served as a judge of the Chhattisgarh High Court.
The five-member Collegium said the Supreme Court has a sanctioned strength of 34 judges and is currently functioning with 32. Two Supreme Court judges – Dinesh Maheshwari and MR Shah – retired recently. Four more vacancies are going to arise by the second week of July and the working strength of judges will further come down, the collegium noted as it recommended the names of Viswanathan and Mishra.
