Prize Money For Team India Women For World Cup Glory?

In a historic moment for Indian cricket, the Indian women’s cricket team, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, won their first-ever ICC Women’s World Cup title in 2025 by defeating South Africa in a thrilling final. The landmark victory not only ended a long wait since their close finishes in 2005 and 2017, but also came with record-breaking prize money, solidifying the team’s place in cricketing history.

Total Prize Money Earned by India

The total prize money for the Indian team comprises,

  • USD 4.48 million (approx ₹40 crore) from the International Cricket Council (ICC) for winning the World Cup
  • ₹51 crore cash bonus announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for players, coaches, and support staff
  • Grand Total: ₹91 crore

This makes it the highest financial reward ever awarded to a women’s cricket team for a single tournament victory — a major milestone in global women’s sports.

BCCI’s Historic Bonus Announcement

Devajit Saikia, BCCI Secretary, made the announcement following India’s victory,

  • “BCCI is proud to reward our world champions with a ₹51 crore prize for their incredible achievement. This is not just about money—it’s about honouring their determination and rewriting cricketing history.”
  • He also credited Jay Shah, BCCI Secretary from 2019 to 2024 and current ICC Chairman, for significantly advancing pay parity and financial recognition in women’s cricket.

ICC Prize Pool Sees 300% Increase

Under Jay Shah’s leadership, the ICC had already raised the total prize pool for the Women’s World Cup by 300%, increasing it from $3.5 million (₹31 crore) in 2022 to $13.88 million (₹123 crore) in 2025.

Key Payouts

  • Winner (India): $4.48 million (~₹40 crore)
  • Runner-up (South Africa): $2.24 million (~₹20 crore)
  • Losing semifinalists: $1.12 million (~₹10 crore) each

This outstripped the prize pool of the 2023 Men’s World Cup, which stood at $10 million (~₹89 crore).

India’s Journey to the Title

India’s road to the final included,

  • Unbeaten group stage run, with standout performances from Shafali Verma, Smriti Mandhana, and Renuka Singh
  • Semifinal victory over England, showcasing India’s growing depth
  • A tense final against South Africa, where Harmanpreet’s all-round performance sealed the win
  • This victory comes after heartbreaking final losses in 2005 and 2017, marking a complete turnaround in Indian women’s cricket.

Impact on Women’s Cricket in India

This win and its financial rewards are expected to,

  • Inspire greater investment in domestic women’s cricket
  • Accelerate grassroots participation among young girls
  • Encourage corporate and media sponsorships for women athletes
  • Cement India as a global powerhouse in women’s cricket
