Salkhan Fossils Park Joins UNESCO’s Tentative List of World Heritage Sites
Salkhan Fossils Park, located in Sonbhadra district of Uttar Pradesh, has achieved a significant milestone by being included in UNESCO’s Tentative List of World Heritage Sites. This recognition underscores the park’s geological and ecological significance, with its 1.4-billion-year-old fossils, and represents a major boost for eco-tourism and scientific research in the region. The state government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has been actively working towards promoting such natural heritage sites globally.
The Salkhan Fossils Park in Sonbhadra has officially been added to the UNESCO Tentative List, marking the first formal step towards being designated a World Heritage Site. The move follows scientific validation of the site’s importance and coordinated efforts by the Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department and eco-tourism development board.
