Sharad Pawar steps down as NCP chief

Veteran Maharashtra politician and former Union minister Sharad Pawar has decided to step down as the president of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). In recognition of the need for a new generation to lead the party and set its course, Sharad Pawar proposed the establishment of a committee comprising Praful Patel, Ajit Pawar, and Supriya Sule to oversee the selection of his successor as the Nationalist Congress Party’s (NCP) chief.

This committee will be responsible for selecting the next NCP president, advancing the party’s principles and objectives to the public, and serving the people in a manner that they believe is appropriate. The party’s development will continue to be a top priority for the committee.

  • Sharad Pawar was born on December 12, 1940, in Maharashtra, India. He began his political career as a member of the Congress party and served as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra on multiple occasions.
  • In 1999, Sharad Pawar founded the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) after leaving the Congress party over differences in leadership. Since then, he has been the chief of the NCP and has held several high-profile positions, including Minister of Agriculture, Minister of Defence, and Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution in the Indian government.
