V.S. Ravi Launches Book on Shakespeare in Hyderabad

On July 7, 2025, retired IPS officer V.S. Ravi launched his new book “Confessions of a Shakespeare Addict” at a warm and intellectual gathering in Hyderabad. The event brought together former officials, scholars, and literature lovers to celebrate his deep connection with William Shakespeare. The book reflects Mr. Ravi’s lifelong love for Shakespeare’s plays and poems.

A Life Devoted to Shakespeare

Mr. Ravi’s new book is a collection of thoughts, memories, and reflections on Shakespeare’s timeless works. The author shared how his interest began during his younger days and grew into a lifelong passion. He recalled visiting Stratford-upon-Avon, the birthplace of Shakespeare, and performing verses from Hamlet in unexpected places—even impressing Nobel Laureate C.F. Powell during a car ride.

Mr. Ravi said, “Every word Shakespeare wrote shines with light. I’ve recited his lines in places no one else has.”

Voices of Appreciation

Many dignitaries attended the event and spoke about Mr. Ravi’s deep knowledge of literature. Former Tamil Nadu Governor P.S. Ramamohan Rao, a retired IPS officer himself, praised Ravi for bringing Shakespeare’s words into everyday life. Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Secretary S. Chakravarthy added, “Ravi doesn’t just read Shakespeare—he lives and breathes him.”

The Hindu Group Chairperson Nirmala Lakshman, though unable to attend, sent a message of support. She praised Ravi’s work as a literary columnist and his efforts to make Shakespeare’s writing relatable for modern readers.

A Literary Event Full of Warmth

The event took place in Hyderabad and was moderated by former IPS officer B. Krishna Rao. Other guests included former Hyderabad Police Commissioner A.K. Khan, Ravi’s wife Jayanthi, and the book’s publisher, Diwakar. The room was filled with readers who shared Ravi’s admiration for Shakespeare’s genius and storytelling.

Mr. Ravi has written for The Hindu Sunday Magazine for many years and is known for making complex literature easy to understand. His new book is expected to reach students, readers, and anyone who wants to explore the world of William Shakespeare.
