Vice-President Elections 2022 will start on 6th August 2022 as per the announcement made by the Election Commission of India. Article 56(1) of the Constitution of India such that the Vice President of India shall remain in office for five years. The former Vice President of India Venkaiah Naidu has completed five years of duty and has to be replaced by Vice-President Elections.
The two nominees for the Vice-President Elections are Jagdeep Dhankhar of Bhartiya Janta Party from NDA Alliance and Margaret Alva of Indian National Congress from United Opposition Alliance. Jagdeep Dhankhar was nominated as the NDA candidate by BJP on 16th July 2022, he was the then serving Governor of West Bengal. On 17th July 2022, Margaret Alva was nominated as the Vice Presidental candidate by the United Opposition Alliance.
