One such respected title is ”Bengal Kesari,” which means ”Lion of Bengal.” This title was given to Ashutosh Mukherjee, a famous Indian educationist, mathematician and public leader, who played an important role in the freedom struggle and the growth of education in India.

Sir Ashutosh Mukherjee (1864-1924) was one of the most respected scholars and leaders of his time. He was a great mathematician, judge and the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calcutta.
