With global air travel making a strong comeback, airports across continents are witnessing unprecedented passenger movement. According to the Official Airline Guide (OAG), December 2025 marked a significant milestone, reflecting sustained recovery and growth in international and domestic aviation.

This article presents a static, exam-oriented overview of the Top 10 busiest airports in the world in December 2025, ranked by total seat capacity.
The aviation sector has rebounded strongly after years of disruption. Increased tourism, business travel, and improved airline capacity planning have contributed to higher seat availability, which OAG uses as a standard metric to rank the world’s busiest airports.
Dubai International retained its position as the world’s busiest airport, offering 5.50 million seats in December 2025. Its strategic location between East and West and strong international connectivity make DXB a global aviation hub.
Atlanta followed closely with 5.21 million seats, unchanged from last year. ATL continues to dominate due to its massive domestic network and role as a key hub for US airlines.
Tokyo Haneda ranked third with 4.68 million seats, despite a marginal 1% decline. It remains one of the busiest and most efficient airports in Asia.
Guangzhou recorded a notable 12% increase, reaching 4.43 million seats, moving up five places. This growth reflects China’s expanding domestic and regional air travel demand.
Europe’s busiest airport, Heathrow, stood fifth with 4.35 million seats, slipping one rank. Despite capacity constraints, it remains a crucial global aviation gateway.
Shanghai Pudong rose sharply from 10th to 6th position with 4.32 million seats, registering a 7% growth, indicating China’s accelerating international travel recovery.
Delhi IGI emerged as the 7th busiest airport globally, handling 4.31 million seats, up from 8th last year. A 9% increase highlights India’s rapidly expanding aviation market.
Dallas/Fort Worth ranked eighth with 4.29 million seats, slipping three places but still maintaining strong domestic and international connectivity.
Istanbul Airport secured the ninth position with 4.22 million seats, reinforcing its role as a key transit hub connecting Europe, Asia, and Africa.
Re-entering the top 10, Chicago O’Hare recorded 4.12 million seats, reflecting a 9% rise and improved airline capacity deployment.
Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI), New Delhi, is the only Indian airport in the global top 10 for December 2025. Previously ranked eighth, it climbed to seventh position due to increased international routes and higher domestic demand.
