36th National Games: Gujarat Hosts First National Sports Event

36th National Games also known as National Games Gujarat 2022, will be hosted by Gujarat. The Indian Olympic Association (IOA), announced that the games will be held on 27 September to 10th October 2022 in six cities of Gujarat. This is the first time the state is hosting a national sporting event. The National Games will have more than 34 sporting events in six different venues. The previous National Games was the 35th edition which was held in Kerala and there were 33 sports included in the event. National Games 2022: A Brief History of National Games

• The first edition of the Indian Olympic Games took place in Lahore before the independence of India in 1924. Lahore was the venue for three consecutive editions of the Indian Olympic games.
• In 1938 the 8th edition was held in Kolkata and it was the event when the name was changed to the National Games.
• The first National Games held after the Independence was in Lucknow, however, the first National Games (modern) along the lines of the Olympics was held in 1985 in New Delhi.
• The national games are used to promote and identify the young talent of India in sports. The National Games allow sports persons from different states to compete against each other in various disciplines hosted at the games.

National Games 2022: Venues

The 36th edition of the National Games will be held in Gujarat between 27 September to 10 October 2022. There will be more than 34 events that will be played in 6 venues in Gujarat. The Opening ceremony will be held in Ahmedabad. The Chief Minister of Gujarat announced the following venues for the National Games.
