AICTE-VAANI 3.0 Scheme Launched to Strengthen Use of Indian Languages in Higher Education
All India Council for Technical Education has launched the 3rd edition of the flagship AICTE-VAANI scheme (Vibrant Advocacy for Advancement and Nurturing of Indian Languages). This initiative aims to strengthen the use of the Indian languages in the technical education and research. By enabling the students to learn the complex concept in their mother tongue iy seeks to bridge the language barriers and build the more inclusive knowledge of the ecosystem across the country.
The scheme was launched by the Yogesh Singh who have emphasized the importance to making technical knowledge accessible in native languages.
Alongside with the launch AICTE also introduced the dedicated online portal for applications and maked the participation easier for institutions.
The core objective of VAANI 3.0 is to,
Promote the research and publication in Indian languages, encourage the collaboration between academia and industry and ensure that students from the diverse linguistic backgrounds can access the modern technological knowledge without any of language barriers.
The big challenge in the India’s education system has been the language gap between the school and higher education. There are many students study in their mother tongue during the school but face the difficulties when they enroll for the higher education where the primary language in English.
According to AICTE students understand the concepts better when it taught in native languages also perform more confidently in academics and are more likely to engage in to the research and innovation.
This initiative will be directly addresses this gap by creating the supportive multilingual academic environment.
The VAANI 3.0 scheme comes with the strong financial and structural support to ensure the wide implementation across India and make inclusive.
The government will provide the ₹4 crore annually to support the academic activities.
Around more than 200 conferences, seminars and workshops will be funded each year and some selected institution will be receiving ₹2 lakh.
These events will be conducted in the 22 regional languages including the Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Marathi, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Punjabi and Urdu which will represent the broad linguistic representation.
The scheme also focuses on to the 16 emerging and high-impact domains such as the Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Quantum Technology, Hydrogen Energy, Cybersecurity, Space and Defense and Agrotechnology.
AICTE has streamlined the application process via its online platform.
Applications will be invited from the AICTE-approved institutions between April 18th and May 17th, 2026 via the AICTE-ATAL portal.
This VAANI scheme is expected to bring the transformative changes in the education system across the India.
It will improve the learning outcomes specially for those students who are from rural and regional backgrounds and will increase participation in research and innovation and promote the equal opportunities in education.
By removing the language barriers the scheme empowers students to focus on to understanding concepts rather than to struggling with language limitations.
