Assam CM Launches ‘Mukhya Mantrir Nijut Moina 2.0’ to Boost Girls’ Higher Education

Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma today launched the Mukhya Mantrir Nijut Moina 2.0 scheme, a flagship initiative aimed at promoting girls’ enrolment in higher education through monthly financial assistance. The scheme was formally launched at the Birinchi Kumar Barua Auditorium, Gauhati University, with simultaneous events held across the state for the ceremonial distribution of application forms.

Empowering Girls Through Education

The Nijut Moina scheme is designed to empower girls and reduce dropout rates by providing consistent financial support, enabling them to pursue education from the Higher Secondary (HS) level to postgraduate (PG) studies. The scheme is inclusive—girls from all families, regardless of economic background, are eligible to benefit.

Education is the most powerful tool for social transformation, and initiatives like Nijut Moina will play a vital role in empowering young women and enabling them to build a secure future.

Financial Assistance Structure

Under Nijut Moina 2.0, the financial support is structured as follows,

  • HS First Year Students – ₹10,000 annually (₹1,000/month for 10 months)
  • Graduate Level Students – ₹12,500 annually (₹1,250/month for 10 months)
  • Postgraduate Level Students – ₹25,000 annually (₹2,500/month for 10 months)

The scheme covers students enrolled in government and government-aided educational institutions. This year alone, over four lakh girl students are expected to benefit.

Statewide Implementation

Alongside the central launch in Guwahati, district-level events were organized to distribute forms and create awareness about the scheme. Educational institutions, community leaders, and women’s groups participated actively, reflecting strong local support.

This financial aid is not a one-time assistance, but a sustained support system for girls over the course of their academic journey, ensuring they can focus on studies without the burden of financial constraints.

Driving Educational Equality

The Mukhya Mantrir Nijut Moina scheme aligns with Assam’s broader vision of gender equality in education and women’s empowerment. By ensuring financial independence for female students, the initiative aims to bridge the gender gap in higher education enrolment and promote inclusive growth in the state.
