Babar Azam, the captain of the Pakistan cricket team, has set a new record by becoming the fastest player to score 5000 runs in One Day International (ODI) cricket. He achieved this feat in 97 innings, breaking the previous record set by South Africa’s Hashim Amla, who reached the 5000 run mark in 101 innings. Hashim Amla now holds the second position in the list of batters who reached 5000 runs in the fewest innings in One Day International (ODI) cricket. Viv Richards, Virat Kohli, and David Warner follow Amla in the list, having achieved the milestone in 114, 114, and 115 innings respectively. Babar Azam, the Pakistani batter, broke Amla’s record by reaching 5000 runs in just 97 innings. In addition to his latest achievement, Babar has been ranked as the No.1 batter in the International Cricket Council (ICC) ODI rankings for the past two years.
During Pakistan’s innings after being sent in to bat by New Zealand, the 28-year-old Babar Azam broke South African Hashim Amla’s record by taking a single to reach 19 runs and becoming the fastest player to score 5000 runs in One Day International (ODI) cricket. Azam made his ODI debut against Zimbabwe in his hometown of Lahore in May 2015. He is the only batter to have scored consecutive hundreds in three ODIs twice, achieving this feat in 2016 and 2022. Despite his accomplishments, Azam is known for his modest and unassuming demeanor.
