This upward trend reflects ongoing efforts to enhance education across the state, though challenges remain in achieving gender parity in literacy.

Jaintia Hills is the district in Meghalaya with the lowest literacy rate, recorded at 61.64%. With a population of 395,124, including 187,527 literates, the district faces educational challenges that contribute to its lower literacy levels. Efforts are needed to improve access to education and raise literacy rates in this region.

Second District of Meghalaya with the Lowest Literacy Rate

West Garo Hills is the second district in Meghalaya with the lowest literacy rate, standing at 67.58%. Out of a population of 643,291, there are 358,702 literates. The district faces several challenges in education, contributing to its lower literacy levels, highlighting the need for continued efforts to improve educational access and quality.
