Mulayam Singh Yadav Early Life

Mulayam Singh Yadav was born on November 22, 1939 to Murti Devi and Sughar Singh Yadav. He was born in the Uttar Pradesh village of Saifai in the Etawah district. Mulayam Singh Yadav completed his elementary education at Saifai. After completing his primary and secondary studies, Mulayam Singh Yadav enrolled at Karm Kshetra Post Graduate College in Etawah, Uttar Pradesh, to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in politics. Mulayam Singh Yadav moved to Agra to do his post graduate studies after completing his undergraduate degree at AK College in Shikohabad. He received his master’s degree from B.R. College in Agra.

• In 1989, Mulayam initially assumed the office of Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh.
• When the V. P. Singh administration fell in November 1990, Yadav joined Chandra Shekhar’s Janata Dal (Socialist), and he kept his position as chief minister of Uttar Pradesh with the backing of the Congress and the Janata Dal.
• Elections for the UP Assembly were held in June 1991 after the Congress Party withdrew its support in April, and Mulayam Singh Yadav lost to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Foundation of the Samajwadi Party (SP)

• Mulayam Singh Yadav founded the Samajwadi Party in 1992. (SP). In an alliance with the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), he ran for the Uttar Pradesh Assembly in 1993 and won.
• For a second term, Mulayam Singh Yadav served as chief minister of the state of Uttar Pradesh.
• Congress and the Janata Dal supported him. Until his colleagues decided to leave the alliance in June 1998, he was the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh.
• Yadav ran for office in the Mainpuri Lok Sabha Constituency of Uttar Pradesh in the 1996 General Elections, winning.
• In the United Front Coalition Government, he was appointed Union Defense Minister. Yadav was chosen as an MP from the Uttar Pradesh Sambhal Lok Sabha Constituency in 1998 after the government again fell.
• When Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s government fell in 1999, Mulayam Singh Yadav ran for office in the Uttar Pradesh constituencies of Sambhal and Kannauj.
• His son, Akhilesh Yadav, ran for the Kannauj Lok Sabha Constituency in the subsequent by-elections after he resigned from the two seats he had won.

Mulayam Singh Yadav: The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh

Following the 2003 UP Assembly Elections, the SP regained control of the state, and Mulayam Singh Yadav was chosen to lead it as chief minister. Mayawati became the Chief Minister when the BSP won the election in 2007. In 2012, the Samajwadi Party once more won the majority, but Mulayam resigned so that his son, Akhilesh Yadav, could take over as chief minister of Uttar Pradesh.

He ran for the Uttar Pradesh Lok Sabha seats of Azamgarh and Mainpuri in the general elections of 2014. He was elected to both seats, however he resigned from the Mainpuri seat to run for the Azamgarh seat instead. He ran for the Mainpuri Lok Sabha Constituency in the 2019 General Elections and won. Currently, he is an MP from Mainpuri Lok Sabha Constituency.
