Kathleen Corradi has been appointed by NYC Mayor Eric Adams to tackle the city’s severe rodent issue. She has been designated as the city’s inaugural “rat czar” and given the responsibility of minimizing the rat population and creating a cleaner and more hospitable environment for residents. The presence of rats in the largest city in the United States is a common occurrence, with people frequently observing them darting around subway tracks and rummaging through garbage bags on the sidewalks. The notion that there are roughly nine million rats in the city, equaling the human population, has been discredited as a local urban legend.
As far back as 1842, even English writer Charles Dickens grumbled about the vermin during his trip to New York. One of these rodents became an internet sensation in 2015 when it was caught on camera carrying a whole slice of pizza down the stairs of a subway station.
