NITI Aayog, National Institution for Transforming India plays a very important role in the economic growth and development of the country. The aims of NITI Aayog are a “15-year road map”, “7-year vision, strategy, and action plan”, AMRUT, Digital India, Atal Innovation Mission, Medical Education Reform, Agriculture Reforms, Indices Measuring States performance in Health, Education, and water management, Sub-group of chief minister on rationalization of Centrally sponsored schemes, Sub-group of chief ministers on Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Sub-group of chief minister on skill development, Taskforces in agriculture and up to poverty and transforming India Lecture series. NITI Aayog was founded in 2015, to replace the Planning Commission.

 It is a developing states-of-the-art resource center. It provides the necessary knowledge and skills which enables the promotion and innovative strategic policy vision for the government. It is supported by the following office’s Development Monitoring and Evaluation Organisation (DMEO), Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), and the National Institute of Labour Economics Research and Development (NILERD). The activities under the NITI Aayog can be divided into four main parts-

Objectives of NITI Aayog

1. With the active involvement of the states, NITI Aayog aims to evolve a shared vision of national development strategies, sectors, and priorities.
2. To formulate credible plans to develop mechanisms at the village level and aggregate this progressively at higher levels of government.
3. To pay attention to the section of the society which is not benefited adequately from the economic progress
4. To design long-term policy and strategic programs and monitor the progress. The feedback from the monitoring will be used for making innovative improvements to the policies.
5. To provide advice between key stakeholders and national and international like-minded think tanks.
6. Through a collaborative community of national and international exports creating an Innovation and an entrepreneurial support system.
7. To accelerate the implementation of the development agenda it offers a platform for the resolution of intersectoral and interdepartmental issues.
8. To strengthen the probability of success and scope it actively monitors the implementation of programs and initiatives taken by the NITI Aayog.
9. For the implementation of initiative programs focuses on the upgradation of technology.
10. It aims to undertake other activities which are necessary for the development of the nation.

Members of NITI Aayog

 The prime minister of India is the chairperson of NITI Aayog. The chief minister of all states is the governing council and the lieutenant governors of the union territories in India are also in the governing council. The regional council is created to address particular issues and possibilities affecting more than one state. These are formed for a particular issue faced by more than one state and for a fixed time regional councils work. The prime minister summons the regional council and it consists of the chief minister of state and lieutenant governors of Union territories. The eminent expert specialist of relevant domain knowledge is sometimes invited as a special invite and nominated by the prime minister.

The organizational framework includes the prime minister as the chairperson and a Vice-chairperson who is appointed by the prime minister. The members are full time and the part-time members are a maximum of 2 in number from universities leading research organizations and other innovative organizations in an ex-official capacity. Ex-official members are four in number, of the council of a minister who is to be nominated by the prime minister. The CEO will be appointed by the prime minister and he will be ranked as a secretary to the Government of India. The CEO is appointed for a fixed tenure.

Key initiative of NITI Aayog

1. E-AMRIT– It is a one-stop destination for all information on electronic vehicles. The portal is developed and hosted by NITI Aayog under the collaborative knowledge exchange program with UK Government, as a part of the UK-India join to road map 2030 which is signed by the prime minister of both the countries. E-Amrit aims to create awareness among people to switch to electronic vehicles and sensitize consumers on the benefits of e vehicles. The portal helps the consumers to burst the myths about the adaptation of electronic vehicle investment, purchase, and policies. AMRIT means Accelerated E Mobility Revolution for India’s Transportation.
2. Women entrepreneurship platform– It is the first kind of access portal for women entrepreneurs which brings together women from different parts of India to build a nurturing ecosystem that aims to contribute to entrepreneurial aspirations. The idea of a women entrepreneurship platform was proposed by Shri Amitabh Kant, The CEO of NITI Aayog. He announced this program at the 8 global entrepreneurship summit in 2017.
3. Methanol economy– Methanol is a low carbon hydrogen carrier fuel that produces high as coal agricultural residue and CO2 from thermal power plants and natural gas. It is slightly lower in energy content compared to petrol and diesel but methanol can replace both of these fuses in the transport sector.
4. Strategy for new India– It was released on 19th December 2018 by finance minister Shri Arun Jaitley in the presence of vice-chairman Dr. Rajiv Kumar NITI Aayog. The strategy from new India establishes to achieve the goal of new India by 2022.
5. International corporation– NITI Aayog has collaborated with Australia, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Switzerland, China, and Singapore for international development.
6. Transforming India’s gold market– The major goals of transforming India’s gold market are Make in India in gold, financialization of gold tax, duty structure regulatory infrastructure, skill development, and technology up-gradation.
