RR’s Yuzvendra Chahal becomes first Indian to take most wickets in IPL

Yuzvendra Chahal, the spinner for both India and the Rajasthan Royals cricket team, made history on Sunday as he became the first Indian bowler to take 300 wickets in T20 cricket. Chahal’s impressive performance against the Sunrisers Hyderabad saw him take four wickets for just 17 runs in four overs, ultimately leading his team to a 72-run victory.

Chahal reached the milestone after dismissing Harry Brook with the last ball of the seventh over. He now has an impressive record of 303 wickets in 265 matches, having also taken down Mayank Agrawal, Adil Rashid, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar throughout the match.

  • Chahal’s success helped him to surpass Andrew Tye on the all-time highest T20 wicket-taker list, taking him to the 15th position.
  • DJ Bravo from the West Indies leads the list with 615 wickets in 558 matches, followed by Gujarat Titans and Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan with 530 wickets, Sunil Narine from the West Indies with 479 wickets, Imran Tahir from South Africa with 469 wickets, and Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan with 451 wickets.
  • In the Indian Premier League (IPL), Chahal now shares the second spot with Sri Lankan bowler Lasith Malinga, having taken 170 wickets.
  • Behind Chahal in T20 cricket among Indian bowlers are Ravi Ashwin with 288 wickets in 297 matches and Piyush Chawla from the Mumbai Indians team with 276 wickets in 262 matches.

Rajasthan Royals vs Sunrisers Hyderabad Match: Highlights

During the match, the Rajasthan Royals lost the toss and were asked to bat first. They got off to a great start with openers Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal each scoring 54. Skipper Sanju Samson also displayed an impressive performance, hitting a 32-ball 55 as his team posted a total of 203/5 in their 20 overs.

The Sunrisers Hyderabad struggled in their chase, with Trent Boult delivering a double-wicket maiden to start off their innings. They could only manage a total of 131/8 in their 20 overs, with their only highlights being the last couple of overs when Umran Malik and Abdul Samad hit some big blows, adding 37 runs for the ninth wicket.
