Telangana’s Folk Festival Bonalu Kicks Off with Devotion and Celebration

The vibrant and historic Bonalu festival commenced in spectacular fashion at the Golconda Fort in Hyderabad, marking the beginning of a month-long celebration steeped in Telangana’s folk traditions. Devotees thronged the Sri Jagadamba Mahankali temple, where rituals and offerings, including the first Bonam, were performed with traditional fervour. Women in bright attire, rhythmic dances by Potharajus, and fire performances highlighted the spiritual and cultural grandeur of this annual celebration.

About Bonalu Festival

  • Origin: Bonalu is a traditional Hindu festival celebrated predominantly in Telangana, especially in Hyderabad and Secunderabad.
