Humanitarian intervention is of special significance when there is a conflict, disaster or other kind of emergency that disrupts the usual process and denies the population of the basic services.
The job of the humanitarian organizations and workers is to ensure that the affected population gets the essential assistance like healthcare.
Yet, the aid workers work in a dangerous situation. The attacks on humanitarian and healthcare workers can interfere with life-saving interventions.
Hence, World Humanitarian Day focuses on human dignity and global solidarity and shared responsibility towards the people facing humanitarian crises.
Humanitarian workers work directly on the field to help individuals who are impacted by emergencies.
Their duties may also involve providing or facilitating the provision of critical aid, as well as making healthcare and other vital services available to the communities. They do their jobs regardless of security concerns.
World Humanitarian Day pays tribute to the humanitarian workers who are serving as well as those who have lost their lives while performing their duties. World Humanitarian Day 2026 also focuses on the families of the deceased humanitarians.
