International Malala Day is celebrated in the honor of celebrating the birthday of young activist Malala Yousafzai on the 12th of July. On her 16th birthday, she gave an iconic speech on the rights and education of women at the United Nations headquarters and after that, this day is observed to remember her contribution to appealing the world leaders to ensure compulsory and free education for girls. She started her speech by quoting “Malala Day is not my day. Today is the day of every woman, every boy, and every girl who has raised their voice for their rights.”

Malala Yousafzai was born on 12th July 1997 in Mingora, Pakistan. In 2008, she started publicly advocating for the rights of women’s education. She was fully aware of the law that the Pakistani Taliban enacted which doesn’t allow girls to go to school. Malala continued to advocate for women’s rights and social work. She even highlighted how life was under the control of the Taliban.
The UN has declared 12th July as Malala Day to celebrate the birthday of Malala Yousafzai. This day is celebrated in the honor of Malala to appeal to the world leaders to ensure women’s rights and free education. She was a young girl when she started calling out the Pakistani Taliban law which banned girls from going to school. It was a very courageous decision because she was almost killed for standing up against the Pakistani Taliban.
