SAMPANN Pension Portal Integrated with UMANG for Easy Access to Pension Services

Digital governance in India has taken another step forward with the integration of SAMPANN, a pension management system, with the UMANG platform. This initiative ensures that pensioners can access critical pension-related information anytime and anywhere. The move is especially beneficial for senior citizens, as it reduces physical visits to offices and promotes seamless, transparent service delivery.

Why in News?

The SAMPANN pension portal has been integrated with the UMANG (Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance) platform, allowing nearly 4 lakh pensioners of the Department of Telecommunications to access their PPO details and Life Certificate validity online.

What Is the SAMPANN Pension System?

  • SAMPANN (System for Accounting and Management of Pension) is a flagship digital platform developed by the Office of the Controller General of Communication Accounts.
  • Dedicated to the nation in December 2018, the system manages the entire pension lifecycle, from processing pension cases to disbursement and grievance redressal.
  • It reflects a shift from system-centric to pensioner-centric governance, enabling retirees to receive pension directly into their bank accounts and access services digitally without visiting offices or banks.

Integration with UMANG and Its Benefits

  • With integration into UMANG, pensioners can now retrieve their Pension Payment Order (PPO) number and check Life Certificate (LC) validity status through a single digital platform.
  • According to Ashish Joshi, Principal Controller of Communication Accounts, this integration enhances ease of access, transparency, and service efficiency.
  • Combined with DigiLocker support, it ensures pensioners always have access to vital pension information on mobile or web platforms.

Key Services Available on UMANG

  • Currently, two major SAMPANN services are available on UMANG.
  • Pensioners can know their PPO number by entering their bank or post office account details along with date of birth.
  • They can also check the Life Certificate validity date, which confirms whether their pension will continue without interruption.
  • These services are especially useful for elderly pensioners, helping them avoid delays or stoppages due to missing documentation

About UMANG and Digital India Initiative

  • UMANG is a unified digital platform under the Digital India initiative, offering access to services from Central, State, and Local governments through a single mobile app or web portal.
  • Available on Android, iOS, and web, UMANG simplifies service delivery by allowing users to authenticate via Aadhaar, MPIN, or DigiLocker.
  • Its integration with platforms like SAMPANN reflects India’s broader push toward inclusive, accessible, and technology-driven governance.
