France Create History While India Crash Out of Thomas Cup 2026

India’s campaign in the Thomas Cup 2026 comes to an end as they have suffered the 0-3 defeat against the France in the semifinals of the tournament. With this loss team India have to settle with the bronze medal for this edition. Lakshya Sen injury have proved costly to the Indian team as they are not able to win a single match in the semis. But on the other side France has created history by entering to their first ever Thomas Cup final.

India vs France Semifinal: The One-Sided Contest

The clash of the semifinal was turned out to be one sided and the Indian shuttlers are unable to match the intensity of the French team. Players like HS Prannoy, Kidambi Srikanth and Ayush Shetty all lost their matches in the three straight games. France has displayed the superior control and tactical execution thoughout the matches and does not give any chance to India for the comeback.

Ayush Shetty Falls to Christo Popov

In the opening singles match Ayush Shetty faced the tough challenge against world No. 4 Christo Popov.

Popov have dominated from the start and win the match with the score of 11-21, 9-21 in just 39 minutes. His deep returns and sharp net play technique kept the Ayush under constant pressure.

Srikanth’s Fight Not Enough Against Alex Lanier

India hoped for the comeback when Kidambi Srikanth stepped onto the court. However the Alex Lanier maintained his composure to win 21-16, 21-18.

Srikanth have showed glimpses of brilliance during rallies but he lacked consistency at important moments.

Lanier’s aggressive approach and strong net play will helped him to edge ahead in key phases of the match.

HS Prannoy’s Loss Seals India’s Exit

When the tie on the line the HS Prannoy needed a win to keep India alive. However he went down to Toma Junior Popov 19-21, 16-21.

Despite the competitive first game Prannoy couldn’t sustain the pressure and the French player won the match efficiently.

Lakshya Sen’s Absence Proves Crucial

The absence of Lakshya Sen, who was dealing with a swollen elbow and couldn’t participate in  the semifinal.

As he is one of the team’s top singles players his presence could have changed the result of the game.

India’s Performance Outcomes

Despite the semifinal loss India can take some of the positives from their campaign.

As they have already secured a bronze medal after entering in semis.

Also the strengthened the continued strong presence in global badminton.

Earlier India has finished third in 1952, 1955, and 1979, making this another notable addition to their record.
