Celebrated mountaineer Kabak Yano from Arunachal Pradesh has successfully summitted Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak, as part of her ongoing Seven Summits expedition. The feat marks another proud moment for India in global mountaineering and highlights the growing presence of North East India’s adventurers on the international stage.
Standing at 5,895 meters above sea level, Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania is the tallest peak in Africa and the world’s highest free-standing mountain.
Mission Seven Summits
Yano is on a determined mission to conquer the Seven Summits—the highest mountains on each of the seven continents. Her successful ascent of Mount Kilimanjaro adds to her already impressive mountaineering résumé, which includes Mount Everest, the highest peak in the world.
The Seven Summits challenge is one of the most prestigious goals in mountaineering, demanding endurance, mental resilience, and technical climbing skills across diverse terrains and climates.
A Source of Pride for Arunachal Pradesh
Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, KT Parnaik, who had ceremoniously flagged off her expedition on July 28, lauded Kabak Yano’s achievement.
Ms. Yano has once again demonstrated the indomitable spirit, courage, and perseverance that define the people of Arunachal Pradesh. Her success inspires not just our youth but the entire nation. Yano’s climb reflects both personal tenacity and a broader narrative of women’s empowerment and regional representation in adventure sports.
Inspiring the Next Generation
Kabak Yano, already known for her Everest success, continues to blaze trails for women in mountaineering, especially from India’s North East. Her journey is expected to motivate young adventurers and aspiring athletes across the country.
With Kilimanjaro now behind her, Yano will continue pursuing her Seven Summits mission, which includes iconic peaks such as Mount Aconcagua in South America, Denali in North America, Mount Elbrus in Europe, Mount Vinson in Antarctica, and Mount Kosciuszko in Australia.
