Balen Shah Set to Become Nepal’s Prime Minister After Election

Nepal has to see a dramatic political shift after the 2026 parliamentary elections. The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has taken a commanding lead in Nepal’s parliamentary elections. this leads signaling a significant transformation in the country’s political scenario.

The party which was founded only three years ago. They secured early victories and leads across many constituencies. As vote counting progressed across 150 constituencies the RSP won two seats. And they was leading in over 100 constituencies far ahead of established parties.

Traditional parties such as the Nepali Congress (NC) and the Communist Party of Nepal (UML) lagged significantly in the results. This outcome indicates growing voter support for new political leadership and reform-oriented politics in Nepal.

The rise of Balen Shah marks one of the most remarkable political journeys in Nepal’s recent history. Balen Shah first gained national recognition after winning the Kathmandu mayoral election in 2022 as an independent candidate. His campaign was focused on the governance reforms, transparency and youth engagement.

The 35 year old leader he was known for his earlier career as a rapper and social activist. He was later became a prominent face of the Rastriya Swatantra Party. His growing popularity among young voters and urban citizens helped the party gain widespread support in the Nepal election 2026.

Nepal Parliament Structure and Election System

Nepal’s federal parliament has the House of Representatives. And it consists of 275 members elected through a mixed electoral system. Out of the total seats, 165 members are elected through the first past the post system. In which where candidates with the highest votes in each constituency win. The remaining 110 seats are filled through proportional representation, where parties receive seats based on their share of votes.

Final results from the Nepal election 2026 are expected after the completion of vote counting and the proportional representation allocation.
