Bihar Assembly Election 2025: NDA Clinches Landslide Victory, BJP Emerges as Single-Largest Party

The 2025 Bihar Assembly Elections have culminated in a landslide victory for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), which secured a commanding 202 out of 243 seats, well above the majority mark of 122. This resounding win marks a major political shift in Bihar and reinforces the alliance’s dominance in the region.

Final Seat Tally: NDA Dominates

  • Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP): 89 seats
  • Janata Dal (United) – JD(U): 85 seats
  • Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) – LJPRV: 19 seats
  • Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD): 25 seats
  • Indian National Congress (INC): 6 seats
  • All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM): 5 seats
  • Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) – HAMS: 5 seats
  • Rashtriya Lok Morcha – RSHTLKM: 4 seats
  • CPI(ML) Liberation: 2 seats
  • CPI(M): 1 seat
  • Indian Inclusive Party (IIP): 1 seat
  • Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP): 1 seat

The BJP emerged as the single-largest party with 89 seats, closely followed by JD(U) with 85, highlighting the combined strength of the ruling alliance. In contrast, the Mahagathbandhan, led by RJD and Congress, managed only 34 seats in total, marking a sharp decline from previous performances.

PM Modi’s Reaction and the ‘MY Formula’

Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the result as a victory of democracy and true social justice, emphasizing that Bihar had moved beyond “Jungle Raj.” Addressing a celebratory gathering at the BJP headquarters, Modi credited the win to a new ‘MY formula’ – Mahila (women) and Youth. He noted that these two groups were central to the NDA’s massive support.

Female Voter Turnout Sets New Record

One of the standout features of this election was the record-breaking female voter turnout at 71.6%, the highest in Bihar’s history. With nearly half of Bihar’s 74 million electorate being women, their participation proved decisive. Analysts believe that welfare schemes and financial incentives aimed at women by both BJP and JD(U) struck a chord, driving them to the polls in large numbers.

A New Political Landscape in Bihar

This election could also be the last political battle for two of Bihar’s veteran leaders — Nitish Kumar of JD(U) and Lalu Prasad Yadav of RJD — both in their 70s and facing health issues. Their possible retirement may open the door for a new generation of political leadership in the state.
