Chirag Paswan Re-Elected As President Of LJP For 5 years

Union Minister Chirag Paswan was on August 25 re-elected as the national president of Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) for the next five years. The decision was taken unanimously during the LJP(RV) national executive meeting held in Ranchi.

Assembly election in Jharkhand

Mr. Paswan asserted at the meeting that his party is willing to contest the Assembly election in Jharkhand to strengthen its support base in the tribal-dominated State. Another National Democratic Alliance (NDA) partner, the Janata Dal (United), has also said it wants to contest on 11 seats in Jharkhand as part of the alliance.

Strengthen to the organization

Mr. Chirag said, “If our organisation is strong, then we can take the call to contest alone, or we can do so in alliance. We contested the Nagaland election alone and won two seats. We even registered victory in the local body elections in Nagaland and have two councillors.

Alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party

Mr. Paswan said that we have an alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party at the national level. We contested the Assembly election alongside BJP in Jharkhand in 2024 and contested from the lone seat, Sikaripara. This time, we have given the responsibility to the State unit to take a final call on whether to contest Assembly election under an alliance or independently.

No provision of ‘creamy layer’

Reacting to the recent protest by Dalit and Adivasi organisations over the Supreme Court ruling on sub-classification of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, Mr. Paswan said, “I was present in that Cabinet meeting in which Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji clarified that there will be no provision of ‘creamy layer’ in Scheduled Castes. My party also has the same thinking.

Basis for reservation for Scheduled Castes

The basis for reservation for Scheduled Castes is untouchability, the basis for untouchability was never economical or educational. Even today, we hear stories of Dalit youth being stopped from riding a horse, Dalit families being stopped from entering temples.
