Dr. Thomas Pucadyil Appointed Director of BRIC-NCCS Pune

Dr. Thomas Pucadyil has been named as the new Director of the BRIC-NCCS in Pune. He will bring the years of expertise in cell biology and research innovation. His appointment crucial as India is focusing strongly on to advanced biomedical research and healthcare solutions. This transition is currently underway and have the expectations are high for to further strengthening India’s position in global scientific research.

Dr Thomas Pucadyil Director of BRIC-NCCS Pune

As the Director of Biotechnology Research Innovation Council – National Centre for Cell Science (BRIC-NCCS), Pune Thomas Pucadyil has been appointed to the post.

He had previously built his independent research career at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Pune. In where he serve as the Professor in the Department of Biology.

His leadership is expected to enhance the institute research capabilities and the innovation ecosystem.

Research Excellence and Scientific Contributions

He is widely known for his research on the membrane integrity which is disrupting proteins in cells. This is the crucial area in understanding cellular processes and disease mechanisms.

His achievements include the,

  • Recipient of the prestigious Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize (2018)
  • Fellow of Indian National Science Academy
  • Fellow of Indian Academy of Sciences

Leadership Transition at NCCS

He will take over the responsibilities from Manisha Inamdar and she served as the interim director.

Earlier Sharmila Bapat held the role of Additional Director until the December 2025. This transition will marks the new phase for the institute as it aligns with the broader goals of the Biotechnology Research Innovation Council (BRIC).
