Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya and DRDO Ink MoU to Advance Smart Defence Tech

On 17 November 2025, a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya (GSV) and the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) in New Delhi, marking a major step in India’s journey toward indigenous smart defence technologies and secure logistics systems. The MoU was signed in the presence of Dr. Samir V. Kamat, Chairman of DRDO and Secretary of Defence R&D, alongside Prof. Manoj Choudhary, Vice Chancellor of GSV, and Dr. Lal Chand Mangal, DG (Technology Management), DRDO.

Strategic Focus Areas of the MoU

The partnership between GSV and DRDO will pave the way for collaborative R&D in several high-impact domains, with emphasis on technology innovation for national defence and logistics readiness. The joint efforts will include,

  • Logistics Management across tactical, operational, and strategic levels
  • Operational logistics modelling and plan validation
  • Advanced Chip Design and Hardware Security
  • Homomorphic and Blockchain-based Encryption Technologies
  • Deployment planning of indigenous defence systems

These areas are vital for India’s defence preparedness, cybersecurity, and technology self-reliance (Aatmanirbharta) in sensitive domains.

Capacity Building and Collaborative Research

As part of this MoU, both institutions will engage in,

  • Joint R&D projects
  • Seminars and academic conferences
  • Round-table workshops on defence and security tech
  • Capacity-building programs for young researchers, scientists, and defence professionals

This collaboration is expected to nurture a new generation of defence innovators, especially in fields where technology, transportation, and security intersect.

Why This Collaboration Matters

Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya, established in 2022 under the Ministry of Railways, is India’s first university dedicated to transportation and logistics education. With existing collaborations with the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force, the university has already emerged as a leading academic centre for logistics and supply chain studies.

This MoU with DRDO, India’s premier defence R&D organisation, adds a cutting-edge dimension to GSV’s work—specifically linking civilian logistics expertise with high-end military tech development.

Vision: Towards Aatmanirbhar Defence Systems

During the event, Dr. Samir V. Kamat highlighted the vision behind the partnership,

  • “This collaboration is expected to facilitate the development of technological solutions for deployment aspects of indigenous defence systems.”
  • This reflects India’s broader strategy under Aatmanirbhar Bharat, aimed at developing in-house capabilities in defence technologies, especially in AI-driven logistics, cyber-secure communications, and supply chain resilience.
