Himachal Government Approves ‘Mukhya Mantri Sukh Shiksha Yojana’

The Himachal Pradesh government has allocated Rs 53.21 crore annually to fund the ‘Mukhya Mantri Sukh Shiksha Yojana,’ aimed at supporting the education and well-being of children from vulnerable families. This initiative will provide financial aid to widows, destitute women, divorced women, and disabled parents.

Financial Aid for Educational Needs

Under the scheme, children under 18 years of age from eligible families will receive a monthly grant of Rs 1,000 to cover educational, health, and nutritional expenses. For those pursuing undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma, or vocational courses, the government will offer financial assistance for tuition and hostel costs.

Target Groups and Coverage

The scheme is designed to assist women and disabled parents facing significant challenges in supporting their children. It addresses issues related to child protection by preventing child abuse, trafficking, teenage marriages, and drug abuse. It also acknowledges the link between disability, unemployment, and poverty.

Eligibility and Application Process

Eligible beneficiaries are women, children, and individuals with a family income not exceeding Rs 1 lakh per annum. Applications can be submitted to the local Child Development Project Officer. The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of fostering a supportive environment for vulnerable families and ensuring children receive the necessary education and care.

Government Commitment

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu highlighted that the scheme reflects the government’s commitment to supporting underprivileged sections of society. The initiative aims to provide moral and financial support to those who are often unable to voice their grievances.
